Relocating to Portmore in 1988, he befriended fellow aspiring deejays including Determine, Mega Banton and Ricky General, issuing his debut record “The Living Is Hard” in 1993. Teaming with producer Richard “Bello” Bell, Anthony B. notched a series of hits including was “Repentance Time,” “Fire pon Rome,” “Rumour” and “Raid di barn” before releasing his first full-length effort Real Revolutionary in 1996. Universal Struggle followed in 1997, with the single “Nah Vote Again” viewed as a key factor in preserving peace at the national elections later that year. In 1999, Anthony B. returned with Seven Seals. More Love followed two years later.
a word from the fans:
Anthony B’s spectacular performance was extremely well received by the giant crowd who let out a huge roar when it was announced that he will be appearing at Reggae on The River this summer. On this night, Anthony B proved to the masses that he is truly a “Conscious Entertainer”. Big up to People Productions, The Mateel Community Center, George Golding and VP Records for their excellence and livication in helping bring JAH music to northern california.
All the while the Bobo Dread never stopped dancing. He teased the audience with a line from Beres Hammond’s “One Dance” before singing “Them a dance too funky …” The conscious entertainer is versatile for sure. He uniquely covered Peter Tosh’s “Equal Rights” and made mention of the fact that Peter Tosh is/was his inspirer. He sealed his show with a Bob Marley medley sung over the ska rhythms of “Simmer Down.”
Anthony came on with so much power and strength; you could’ve probably felt his energy a mile away. Anthony returned for the encore and kept going for another hour. Which seemed to be more than two hours long, and everyone was far from tired. If that show went all night long no one would have left. Truly the best performance or should I say experience I’ve had in a long time!!!!
